Strengths

  • Full node mode for maximum privacy and trustlessness
  • Official Monero Project software with long track record
  • Supports all Monero features: subaddresses, payment proofs, multisig
  • Supports Trezor and Ledger hardware wallet integration

Weaknesses

  • Full node requires 150GB+ disk space and hours to sync initially
  • Interface is functional but dated compared to Cake or Feather
  • No mobile version

Privacy

In full node mode, Monero GUI provides the highest level of privacy available. Your wallet verifies transactions locally without trusting any third party. No IP address is exposed to a remote node operator. In simple (remote node) mode, the node operator can see your IP address but not your transaction details.

Notes

The Monero GUI is the gold standard for privacy, but the full-node requirement makes it impractical for most casual users. If you have the disk space and want to contribute to network decentralization, running a full node is the way to go. Otherwise, Feather Wallet gives you most of the same features with a lighter footprint.
